Thanks to Dutch Wonderland for having me back in 2021 as a Royal Ambassador. As a Royal Ambassador, my son and I received free admission to the park.
Duke's Lagoon features water attractions, a water ride, food, cabanas, and more. It's a great place to play and cool off on a hot day. Our visit was in early June but the thermometer topped 90 degrees so we were anxious to go play. There are three main water play areas in addition to the ride, Pipeline Plunge. Each of the water play areas are designed with specific ages in mind. There is one section that has oversized cartoon-y underwater creatures that overlook small geysers and "water table" type activities. Another section has a tropical feel with water cascading from overhead features and play structures that you can climb on to shoot water guns. The final and largest play area has multiple water slides that are perfectly sized for toddlers and elementary aged children. There are guards on duty here helping to keep kids safe as they climb and slide. The slide structures resemble a playground - nothing large or intimidating for young guests.

If you have a kid looking for more of a challenge, Pipeline Plunge is a slide where guests ride in an inner tube through twisting, turning tunnels. Again, while this is more of a thrill ride than anything else in the water park, it's still made with kids in mind - not too steep or too fast. My six year old was still a little nervous to try this one, mostly because it's in an enclosed tube and he was worried about the dark. The inner tubes can fit a parent and child together, so that may help with some nerves if you're little one is working up the courage to try.

Beyond the attractions, Duke's Lagoon features cabana rentals, food, and drink options which means you can truly splash the day away. There is an Auntie Anne's pretzel location as well as a full service food stand featuring burgers, chicken tenders and fries. There are also slushies for sale too! Thinking about renting a cabana? They will cost you a good bit of money, but if you have enough people to split the cost between and are looking to spend the bulk of your day in Duke's Lagoon, it may not be a bad choice. On my incredibly hot visit, the water park was PACKED and it was hard to find a chair to use while Caleb played.
Best Tips for Visiting Duke's Lagoon at Dutch Wonderland
- Go early or late. The midday summer heat is when Duke's Lagoon is it's busiest!
- If you're planning to rent a locker, go early and grab one to store your water gear. That way it's nearby when you need it later in the day AND you guarantee scoring one as they are limited.
- Talk safety with your little one. I always start any visit by pointing out the lifeguards to Caleb and what they are wearing. We review a simple safety guideline - if you get lost from mommy, find a lifeguard to help you. Water parks can get very chaotic and very crowded.
- Snack in Duke's Lagoon, but eat your meal elsewhere. If your kids are like mine, they will just want to run and run and play while here. Getting them to focus on eating a meal would be tricky and the waterside seating is mostly just chairs - few table options exist outside of a cabana, which also makes it hard to eat a meal.
