Disneyland Reopening in July!!!

Photo Courtesy of Get Away Today

We've got ears, say cheers!!!

Disney fans can rejoice once again as news of another Disney destination reopening has broken.  Pending approval from local and state government, Disneyland in Anaheim, California plans to begin a phased reopening on July 9th.  Much like their counterparts in Florida, the first area to open will be Downtown Disney District on July 9th followed shortly after by Disneyland Park and Disney's California Adventure Park.  Both parks are slated to open on July 17th - and Disney historians will recognize that as the 65th anniversary of the original opening of Disneyland. . .now THAT's practically perfect in every way!  Lastly, hotels are scheduled to resume operations on July 26th.

**Update - As of June 24, Disneyland announced that they have delayed their reopening.  Stay tuned to the Disney Parks social channels for the latest updates**

Disneyland seems to be following many of the reopening details that have already been shared by Walt Disney World Resort including the use of masks, social distancing markers, increased cleaning procedures, health screenings, limited capacity and more.  Advanced reservations will also be required to enter the parks - whether you have a day ticket or an annual pass.

In addition to practices within the parks, Disneyland will also be following suit with Walt Disney World's restriction on purchasing new tickets and Annual Passes at this time in order to honor existing reservations and those cancelled by COVID-19.  But no need to fear, if you want to visit Disneyland and don't have a ticket in hand already, my friends at Get Away Today may be able to help!  They have a very limited amount of tickets available that you can purchase from them to use during this time.  To check availability, visit their website here! As always, for the most up-to-date information keep your eyes on Disney's official outlets including the Disneyland website and the Disney Parks Blog.

Great Deals for Star Wars Fans at Disneyland Resort

The whole Star Wars fan universe has been waiting (with every ounce of patience we have!) for the exciting opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts this year.  While those of us on the East Coast still have a few more months to wait before experiencing the out-of-this-world excitement at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Southern California gets to enjoy what Black Spire Outpost has to offer beginning May 31.  Here's what you need to know in order to travel to a galaxy far, far away! Fuel up your Millennium Falcon, grab a Wookie, and let's go!

This post contains affiliate links. You save money and I earn a small commission - everyone wins!

From May 31 to June 23, guests wishing to enjoy Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at the Disneyland Resort will need a reservation at one of Disney's hotels to gain access.  My travel partner, Get Away Today, has a few reservations they can hook you up with if you're looking for a last minute opportunity to travel for the opening weeks:
If you can hold on to your lightsabers until June 24, more opportunities will open for locals and guests both on and off Disneyland Resort property to enter Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.  Disney is trying something out that is a great timesaver for guests, by allowing visitors to log into a virtual "queue" to wait to gain entrance for this popular land.  Once you enter Disneyland Park, you will be able to "get in line" while still enjoying all of the other great attractions at the park.  Get Away Today also has great deals going on throughout the summer months which you can learn more about by following the links below:
The Force is so strong with these deals, even the Dark Side can't resist joining in the fun! So what are you most excited about in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge?  Whether it's the rides, the food, the theming, or the character interactions, there will certainly be a lot to love!  I love the way that Disney immerses you in a story the moment you set foot in their parks and I'm sure Galaxy's Edge will not disappoint.  Don't miss out on your chance to experience it all!! Don't forget to use promo code PIXIEDUST when you visit Get Away Today to save even more money on your vacation package!

A Whole New World of Ticket Prices

Rumors have been swirling for a while now about the annual ticket price increases that were coming to Walt Disney World and Disneyland.  Well, today was the day.  Disney Parks price increases went in effect today and feature something new to Disney - tiered pricing.  Let's break down the prices and how they may impact your next family vacation.

Tiered / Seasonal Pricing - This is nothing new in the world of entertainment and sports.  As Orioles fans, we have to pay more to see a Yankees game then we do to go to an Astros game.  The same thing is now true for Disney Parks.  Disneyland and Walt Disney World now have three distinct seasons - value, regular, and peak.  If you want to visit a Disney Park during the week between Christmas and New Year, it'll cost you more.  The swing in ticket prices for Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World goes from $105 during value season, $110 during regular season, and $124 during peak season.  The hope from Disney's point of view is that this will encourage visitors to come to the park during less busy times of the year.  An important note - seasonal / tiered pricing only impacts single day tickets, not multi-day ticket sales or annual passes.  This means that if you're planning a week long vacation to Walt Disney World, you won't need to worry about the seasonal pricing.

Ticket Price Increases - In addition to the introduction of tiered pricing, the annual ticket increases took effect.  It appears to be roughly an 8% hike in ticket prices.  As an example, the 6-day Magic Your Way ticket previously cost $325 for adults and now has increased to $355.  While this seems hefty, it is typical for Disney to increase their prices annually.  If the ticket increase has you down, don't forget one of my favorite tips.  You can use discount ticket sites like Undercover Tourist to purchase tickets at a slight discount or, if you have a  Target Red Card, you can purchase Disney gift cards at a 5% savings and then use those gift cards to pay for your tickets.  And if you're not in a hurry to get your Disney gift cards today, you can buy them online from Target at the 5% discount and earn 2% cash back on your purchase if you're an Ebates member.  Little ways to save add up!

What is the Disney Parks Moms Panel?

Confession - Even those of us who eat, breathe, and sleep all things Disney sometimes have questions.

I consider myself to be well versed in the world of Walt Disney World travel, but new experiences like the first time I took a Disney Cruise Line vacation or getting ready for my first runDisney race sometimes leave me scratching my head.  How does transportation work?  What should I pack?  What can I find at the expo?

So where do I turn when I have a question - the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  These ladies (and a few gentlemen) can answer any Disney vacation question you throw their way.  And they do it all with a smile and a splash of pixie dust!  The Disney Parks Moms Panel features specialists in Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club, and runDisney to name a few and also features panelists from a variety of countries.  Whether you are planning your first vacation or your twentieth, if questions come up, this is the perfect place to turn.  Previous questions are posted on the website and categorized so you can easily search questions and answers if you don't even know where to begin.

Last year I made it to Round Two of the search.  Will this be my year to go all the way?
And if you think you know Disney, why not try applying for the panel?  Each year, there is an application process to find new panelists.  The first round begins in September with the excited new members being announced around Thanksgiving.  I've applied each of the past two years and made it to round two last year.  In the past, applicants have answered questions similar to what may be posed to the Moms Panel, submit videos, and complete an interview. While every year there are thousands of applicants, only a small handful can be selected.  What's the secret to getting selected?  If you figure it out, tell me!  I'm sure though from what I've read that knowing your Disney nomenclature, practicing near perfect spelling and grammar, and letting your unique personality shine through are some of the most important criteria.  I can't wait for the applications to open up again this year on September 8th and keep wishing upon a star that this year will be my year to be a Walt Disney World specialist!
